Report Description
***MARINE POLLUTION SURVEILLANCE REPORT*** A VERY LARGE AREA OF SUSPECTED OIL CAN BE SEEN EXTENDING SOUTHWEST FROM THE DESTROYED TAYLOR PLATFORM. THIS AREA OF SUSPECTED OIL IS JUST UNDER 50 MILES IN LENGTH BUT IS BROKEN INTO MULTIPLE SEGMENTS. THE LARGEST SEGMENT, WHICH EXTENDS 22 MILES TO THE WEST-SOUTHWEST, HAS A SILVERY APPEARANCE ALONG THE SOUTHERN EDGE OF THE SLICK AND FEATHERS OUT TO THE NORTH AND NORTHWEST. THIS IS CONSISTENT WITH THE EAAST-NORTHEAST SURFACE WINDS AS WELL AS THE NORTHEASTERLY OCEAN CURRENTS AROUND THE TIME OF THE IMAGE. THE SLICK THEN TURNS TO THE NORTHWEST IN A COUNTER-CLOCKWISE FASHION BUT IS BROKEN INTO MULTIPLE SEGMENTS, LIKELY DUE TO THE NORTHEASTERLY WINDS ACTING AGAINST THE SLICK AND THE OILS LONGEVITY IN THE WATER.
