Report Description
****NESDIS**** POSSIBLE OIL SEEN ORIGINATING FROM TAYLOR PLATFORM. OIL EXTENDS AS FAR AS 27 MILES SOUTHEAST OF PLATFORM VISIBLE IN 4 SEGMENTS BETWEEN CLOUD FEATURES. THE SEGMENT CLOSEST TO THE POINT SOURCE IS APPROXIMATELY 2.4 MILES LONG AND 0.6 MILES WIDE. FOLLOWING THIS, ANOTHER SEGMENT IS SEEN THAT IS 3 MILES LONG AND 1 MILE WIDE. FOLLOWING THIS, THE LONGEST SEGMENT SEEN IS 14.5 MILES LONG AND 1.8 MILES WIDE AT THE LARGEST WIDTH. THE FINAL SEGMENT IS ORIENTED NORTHEAST TO SOUTHEAST AND IS 4.6 MILES LONG AND 0.7 MILES WIDE. DIRECTION OF SLICK IS CONSISTENT WITH OCEAN CURRENT DATA AS WELL AS IMAGERY OF SHEEN SEEN IN YESTERDAYS IMAGERY. UNCERTAINTIES: THE SUSPECTED OIL SLICK LIKELY ORIGINATING FROM THE TAYLOR SITE DOES NOT SHOW UP HAS WELL-DEFINED AS IT DID YESTERDAY. THIS IS PRIMARILY DUE TO LIGHT SURFACE WINDS AND OIL IS NOT IN SUN GLINT. CLOUD FEATURES ARE OBSCURING PART OF THE SLICK MAKING IT HARD TO DISCERN FULL EXTENT OF OIL NEAR THE PLATFORM. HOWEVER FEATURE IS ALIGNED WITH OCEAN CURRENT DIRECTION, AND THE FACT THAT THE OIL SLICK DIRECTION IS CONSISTENT WITH YESTERDAYS ANALYSIS, INCREASES CONFIDENCE.
