NESDIS MARINE POLLUTION SURVEILLANCE REPORT - GULF OF MEXICO: AN AREA OF SUSPECTED OIL WAS DETECTED EMANATING FROM THE DESTROYED TAYLOR PLATFORM. THE SUSPECTED OIL HAD A SILVER, SHIMMERY APPEARANCE IN DIRECT SUN GLINT AND EXTENDED FROM THE PLATFORM TO THE WEST ABOUT 5.5 KILOMETERS. THE SHEEN WAS WIDEST NEAREST TO THE PLATFORM, WITH A WIDTH OF ABOUT 0.6 KILOMETERS. UNCERTAINTIES: THE ANOMALY APPEARED SHIMMERY IN DIRECT SUN GLINT, AND WAS LEAKING FROM A KNOWN LEAK SOURCE. THEREFORE, CONFIDENCE IS HIGH THAT IT IS OIL.
