Report Description
A NARROW SLICK WAS SEEN EXTENDING SOUTHWEST FROM THE DESTROYED TAYLOR PLATFORM. CLOUD COVER PROHIBITED DETECTION OF A PORTION OF THE SLICK. UNCERTAINTIES: CONFIDENCE IS MEDIUM-HIGH GIVEN THAT THE SLICK EMANATES FROM A KNOWN REPEAT LEAK SOURCE; THE ORIENTATION OF THE SLICK RELATIVE TO THE SOURCE IS CONSISTENT WITH BOTH OBSERVED SURFACE WINDS AS WELL AS MODEL FORECAST OCEAN CURRENTS; AND THE ANOMALY APPEARS BLACK IN COLOR WITH DEFINABLE CONTRAST TO THE SURROUNDINGS. EVEN THOUGH A PORTION OF THE SLICK IS OBSCURED BY CLOUD COVER THE OBSERVED SURFACE WINDS AND MODEL FORECAST OCEAN CURRENTS ALLOW THE SOUTHWESTERN PORTION OF THE SLICK TO BE ANALYZED EVEN THOUGH NOT ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE. A MODIS AQUA IMAGE TAKEN 2.5 HOURS LATER AT 1905Z WAS UNHAMPERED BY CLOUD COVER AND SHOWED THE OIL SLICK EXTENDING CONTINUOUSLY FROM THE SOURCE BUT IN A MORE WESTERLY THAN SOUTHWESTERLY DIRECTION.
